Who is Jay Gotra?
As the CEO and Founder of Alliance Security, Inc – a premiere company whose priority is home security solutions, Jay Gotra has two main objectives. The first is to serve the growing nationwide client-base with quality products and services. The second goal is to focus on creating a challenging and supportive environment that keeps his employees invigorated by their work and committed to the company. Jay defines both of these as the driving factors to his work life. However, he has also made time to commit to another of his passions, philanthropy.
Generally speaking, check cutting isn’t Jay Gotra’s preferred method of supporting a charitable cause. While the intention is good, he feels a greater affinity for approaching philanthropy in a much more hands-on manner. Over the past 2 years, Jay Gotra and Alliance Security have chosen to actively join the fight to end domestic violence. Ten Men is an initiative based in Rhode Island that empowers non-violent men to take a stand against domestic violence. The initiative offers programming and opens up the discussion about how men can go from silent bystanders to agents of change through education.
While Jay has dedicated the past 2 years to this initiative locally in Rhode Island, he is looking forward to the expansion of the organization to Texas and other parts of the country. As a member of Ten Men, Jay and Alliance provide free home security systems and monitoring to people who feel threatened by the possibility of domestic violence living in transitional housing. In the last 2 years alone, Alliance has provided these services to 60 transitional homes. Alliance provides these homes with free installation, equipment and monitoring for 2 years. After this time, the free service either continues or the equipment is installed at another transitional home in need of security solutions.
In addition to serving as a founding member of the Ten Men initiative, Jay Gotra spent many years volunteering as a mentor for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. Jay saw the undeniable value of an organization whose mission is, “providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever”, and encouraged other members of the company to mentor as well. Alliance also provides support and donations to the Boys and Girls Club in Rhode Island.
Over the past decade, Jay has created a multitude of ways that employees can apply their interests in volunteering and serving others into the workplace. One of the favorites is through the company Christmas. Around the holidays, each department is provided with wishlists of the children from different families in need. Employees are responsible for shopping and wrapping the presents for these children. Every year the program receives positive feedback both from the families that receive the gifts, but also from the employees themselves. It brings the Alliance family joy knowing that they can contribute- even in a small way to a warm Christmas for those in need. Jay feels grateful for the perspective that this program generates on behalf of his employees every year.
Another internal program revolves around the employee dress code. At Alliance, employees are always encouraged to put their best foot forward and dress in a way that reflects professionalism no matter what their role is in the company. However, on the last Friday of every month, employees have the option of donating $10 to an employee-nominated charity chosen for that month in exchange for the chance to dress down. When Alliance first implemented this system, employees weren’t necessarily forthcoming with names of charities to donate to. However, the program has taken off and now the charities are booked 6 to 8 months in advance! In addition to these causes, Jay Gotra likes to make sure that Alliance is mindful of current events and will organize ways to serve or provide assistance to causes that require immediate attention.
